Feedback from a recent auction fundraiser...
Hello! I organize an auction at a local fair and used Zeffy this year to take our auction online for the first time ever. We launched online a week before the fair and ended the auction with it both online and in person for one day at the fair. I was looking to reduce the work load that comes with organizing paper bid sheets both pre and post auction. It largely went great and we raised a good amount of money but I do have some feedback. For our auction, we collect a lot of items - this year we had 115 separate items. I found entering the Items information on Zeffy, very, excruciatingly slow. There was a lag between entering the text on my keyboard and it appearing on the screen and then saving changes always took a little time. It was not a Wifi issue. I think it would be helpful to have an alphabetize feature to allow me to easily alphabetize the items. Because we had the fair both online and in person I did have the one QR code printed on posters for guests to scan. I am sure it would be hard to code but having a unique QR per item would be more helpful than one QR code to take a guest to the form. We had to use the "find on page" function on a phone very often to help guests find the exact item they were looking to bid on. I also found that when testing and from guest feedback that it was not always working or clear if bids were acknowledged before moving on to the checkout page. Some folks, myself included had to go through the process for every item as opposed to bidding on many items on the items page and then going to check out. I know of at least two cases where someone was charged when they should not have been. I know of these cases because one was reported to me and the other happened to me. I was able to refund both issues thankfully but it does make me concerned about who else may have been mistakenly charged. Unsurprisingly guests of an older generation, or less technological able people had troubles with the QR code and website and gave me feedback. They preferred the paper bids system and we made less money than previous years because our community and the fair is attended by a lot of older people. Thankfully we had volunteers on site to help whoever needed it and I also used my computer to allow guests to make bids. I guess any way to help make it easier for older folks and the less technological would be great. Thanks! [email protected]
